Charges have now been laid in connection to the death of a 2 month old puppy found dead last night beside an apartment building in the Kingsway and Cedarwoods area.

The suspect is a 41 year old man who was the owner of the dog.

Police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel says Jose Cruz is charged with killing an animal and assault with a weapon and uttering death threats.

Heinzel says they are trying to figure out what role the dogs death played in the assault.

Police believe alcohol was a factor.
