Madera County Sheriff's Deputies busted a cockfighting ring in progress tonight in the Chowchilla area.

Deputies said there were 34 birds still alive, but many of them had obvious fighting injuries. Six of the roosters were dead. Many of them were in cages at a farmhouse just off of Highway 152.

Deputies said as many as 30 people were watching the fights. They caught eleven suspects including Gustavo Garcia and Miguel Larios.

They're both charged with possession of roosters for the purpose of cockfighting. Animal control came in to help rescue the surviving birds.
